Date of Completion : DECEMBER 2013
Project Description
The project comprised the design and construction supervision of Fengyue 66kV substation
- 2×5.5km 66kV lines
- 2x 66kV feeder bays at Lotsane Substation
- 66kV HV substation opto the transformer HV Gantries. Two incomer 66kV incomers from Lotsane and one out going feeder to Palapye.
Major Issues
The scope of services covered the following:
- Feasibility Studies including Line Route Survey and Substation Site Selection, Environmental Impact Assessment, Archaeological Impact Assessment, and Power System analysis
- Engineering design covering the specification of towers, conductors, tower foundations line profiling and sag analysis. Preparation of Single Line Drawings, Substation Layouts, Civil and Structural Designs including the Building, Protection and Control Schemes.
- tender preparation and evaluation
- Contract management
- Construction Monitoring for civil works, electrical installations up to commissioning.
- Verification and issuing of payment certificates
- General Client liaison.
Challenges
The size of the plot could not accommodate the proposed substation requirement. In order to meet the layout requirements by our client we had to research on the minimum clearances on spacing at 66kV between circuits and also adjust alignments to accommodate the circuit.
The other challenge was that the soil type along the line was not suitable for our pole foundations. We had to install underground bracing to prevent the pole structures from shifting.
